Peter Schoenecker - Graphic Artist, Illustrator

Pete trained in Graphic design and 3 dimensional art and soon moved to London where he worked for a variety of design and advertising agencies including Royal Sovereign, BGA and the Conran Design Group. In 1980 he went freelance. Relocating to Leeds in 1994 he remained working as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. His portfolio includes work on CD covers for Biss and Olympia, MD Foods, WH Smith cards and wrapping paper, and most recently Hallmark Cards as an illustrator. Working freelance has given Pete the opportunity to gain vast and varied experience in many areas of the design field. He works in house and from his own studio, finding it easy to adapt to both situations, he works under his own initiative or contributing to a team.

Key abilities include:
self motivation, ability to prioritise work load, competence in many mediums, ability to offer a range of styles, designs in 2 and 3D, varied experience in creating new and innovative design solutions.

Pete’s painting has been inspired by a move to the Yorkshire Wolds, drawing on the textures and lighting of the landscapes and sea scapes of this area.

He works in various mediums, acrylics, pastels, water colours, inks and digital. Using lots of photographs and references, he utilises a small colour pallet in order to give harmony to the composition. The works are multi layered, using lots of resists, washing away each layer to see what pattern emerges before re-applying a new resist and fresh layers. Often new landscapes reveal themselves which have the same mood as the original reference but which are more abstract and with a life of their own.
